Amazon
2020
The Amazon last-mile EV delivery van was one of the final projects I touched during my time at Rivian—and even though I didn’t see it through to the finish line, it was a blast to be part of.
From the start, I led my team through a deep discovery phase. We conducted interviews, audits, and ride-alongs with Amazon drivers across various Detroit-area boroughs. It was eye-opening to hear directly from the folks on the front lines what they needed from a new delivery van that the current models just weren’t giving them.
Out of that research, three clear opportunity pillars emerged: safety, comfort, and cabin/truck layout. We took those to heart, building on Rivian’s existing human-centered design frameworks to shape a better experience from the ground up. By the time I wrapped up my chapter at Rivian, those pillars had started taking formal shape, and I’m proud to have helped set that direction and guide my team in the early stages.
And the best part? I still ask Amazon drivers what they think when they pull up to my house in the EV van. So far, every one of them has said the same thing: “Way better than the old one.” That always puts a smile on my face.
